Brass day today. After a heavy session of recording I generally give the lads a break to re-charge as we are always doing something in the company. Bob and Bruce mate did there bits and ripped a couple of brilliant solo over the ending. I doubled mic'd them for this session, i used fat condenser mic for both and a SM57 for sax and a AKG D112 for the trumpet.

I love to put a kick type mic in the Trumpet range as it always delivers a warm sound to the mix. The style of brass we are going for  dictates the positioning of each mic. Fro example the cleaner sound would be Bob about 10 Feet from his 2 mics, for a 70's funk sound or my John Baryr-esque  sound i tend to place him about 20 feet away to give the transients time to travel the way i want to hear them.

All the recording is now done and I am starting the production and mix tomorrow. There will be no blogs on how I mix or produce......cause then I'm giving it all away!!!
